Health Enrichment Literacy Program (HELP)
Health Enrichment Literacy Program
Today, nearly 18,000 children under the age of five die from largely preventable causes such as diarrhea, malaria, and pneumonia. For more than 34 years, Concern has been at the forefront of combating these tragedies through standard-setting programs that strengthen local health systems and provide essential nutrition support and education to the world’s most vulnerable communities.
Concern Mission focuses on improving child and maternal health by promoting effective health and nutrition practices and preventing the leading causes of disease. With the support of our partners — The Presbyterian Hospital and Atrium Carolina Medical Center — and our generous donors, we take responsibility for ensuring that people in local African communities have access to quality healthcare and essential medical supplies.
Our volunteer nurses provide immediate care on the ground, while our preventative efforts include distributing mosquito nets, providing clean water, and improving sanitation in areas most in need across Africa.
Alternative Community Health Care
Concern Mission Health Enrichment Literacy Program (HELP) exists to improve the health environments of the less fortunate people, especially the innocent children, and communities we serve. We work with local health centers, churches, schools, and families; encouraging, maintaining, and strengthening relationships through workshops, counseling, and publication on the basis of sound health and meaningful life in Christ, that help make the concept of life appreciative.

Collaborating with Local and International
Community Health System
Local and national health systems are the main sources for two important nutrition
services: treating acute malnutrition and providing key nutrient supplements for women in children. Health workers are also key players in both promoting overall healthy habits and responding to emergencies.
Beyond clinics and hospitals, community healthcare workers and volunteers are essential — especially in rural areas where the closest facility could be a days-long journey. Concern Mission’s role is to build the skills and capacities of hospital and clinic staff, as well as those of community workers and volunteers. We also work on finding sustainable processes that allow lifesaving interventions to be delivered via governments and communities, at local and national levels.

Clean Well Project in Dolo Town, Liberia
About 40.32% of the rural population in Liberia lacks access to clean water, while 94.1% lacks proper sanitation.
We aim to rehabilitate old water projects that were destroyed or have broken down since the war. In addition, we work closely with communities—training them in safe hygiene practices and empowering them to maintain their own water and sanitation systems for the long term.
So far, we have sponsored and drilled 15 boreholes (wells) to provide safe and clean drinking water for communities across Liberia. [Read More]

" By Donating a little gift from your Heart to help Concern Mission, You will be Investing in Global Healthcare and Nutritional Programs in Improving the Quality of Lives of Thousands of Poor and Less Fortunate children "
Hunger doesn’t happen in isolation. Many of the causes of malnutrition and other health issues cut across sectors. Integrated programs streamline our efforts, as well as those of communities and governments. Sharing resources through joint planning and coordination means we’re able to do more with less while maintaining effectiveness.
Our health and nutrition work often involves projects that combine one or more of the following areas of focus: Agriculture and climate response, maternal and child health, water, sanitation, and hygiene, education, and livelihoods.
